Meet
Michael Burns

Funeral Director & Embalmer
mike.burns@owenfuneralhome.com

Michael is one of three funeral directors in his family. His father started his career with Bird S. Owen, founder of The Owen Funeral Home, and worked there for 42 years until his death.

Michael started working for The Owen Funeral Home doing odd jobs, mowing grass, etc. He served an apprenticeship in the early 1970s, but decided he wanted to try another business opportunity. He worked for the Jefferson County Housing Authority for 11 years but returned to Owen Funeral Home in 1988.

He met his wife Lisa, also a licensed funeral director, when she served an apprenticeship at Owen Funeral Home. Today Lisa is full-time mom to their daughter, Madison "Maddie" McKenzie Burns. On July 15, 2003, Michael and Lisa added to their family by adopting a newborn baby boy, Mason Michael Burns.

Michael has always had a desire to help families in their time of need. If he can ease their pain and grief by helping them personalize the funeral ceremony and in preparation of their loved one, then he knows he has done his job.
