death and we feel it is important for those grieving to have a safe
place to work through these issues. We invite you to contact us
by phone at 447-2600 or e-mail
if you, a friend or family member would benefit from this type of

Hillview Baptist Church (next to Owen Funeral Home) in the fellowship
hall.

group is designed to address the needs and questions of those who
have lost a spouse through death. Each meeting consists of a presentation,
discussion, and support. The group meets at the Southwest Regional
Library, 10375 Dixie Highway for six (6) consecutive weeks. Each
session lasts an hour in duration and focuses on a particular aspect
of the grief process. Please contact Owen Funeral Home for the next
scheduled group meeting information.
The Men's Breakfast support group
is a monthly meeting offered by Owen Funeral Home. This group meeting
allows men to address the issues that are unique to their grief
through an informal gathering over breakfast. The group meets the
3rd Monday of each month at 8:30 a.m. at Granny's Apron Restaurant,
2605 Rockford Lane. Each person is responsible for the cost of their
individual breakfast order.
Jeffersontown Monthly Grief Support Group
is designed to address the grief process for those who have lost
a spouse through death. Each meeting offers support only those who
have lost a spouse can give. The group meets the third Wednesday,
at 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. every month at the Owen Funeral Home Jeffersontown,
9318 Taylorsville Road.
The "Widow/Widower's Luncheon"
is a monthly gathering designed to allow those who grieve the loss
of a spouse to socialize and fellowship with others who can understand
this type of loss. The luncheon is scheduled on the 1st Friday of
every month at 1:00 p.m. at various restaurants. Each person is
responsible for the cost of their individual order. If you would
like to attend, please contact Genene Nisbet at 447-7759 to find

Sunday, June 8 We will meet at Owen Funeral Home on Dixie
Highway and ride to the airport and fly to Las Vegas (often abbreviated
to "Vegas"). It was established in 1905 and officially
became a city in 1911. It is the largest U.S. city founded in the
20th century. We will spend the next three nights at the Luxor Hotel
and Casino in Las Vegas. The Luxor Hotel and Casino is located on
the Las Vegas Strip. The Luxor offers 4, 408 spacious guestrooms
and suites in the 30-story pyramid and two 22-story towers. The
120,000 sq. ft. casino includes slots, 87 table games, a poker room,
and a race and sports book. The Luxor also has an IMAX theater (not
included) screens 3D and standard IMAX movies from late morning
to late evening. The Spotlight Series (not included) in the Luxor
Theater on the casino level includes an eclectic mix of entertainers,
with well-known headliners. The Luxor Galleria shopping mall houses
29 retail stores selling such items as clothing, antiques and children's
gifts. This evening will be spent at our leisure.
Monday, June 9 Today will be spent at our leisure.
Tuesday, June 10 Today, there will be an optional half-day
outing to Hoover Dam. Hoover Dam, also known as Boulder Dam, is
a concrete gravity-arch dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado
River, on the border between the U.S. states of Arizona and Nevada.
The dam, located 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas, is named after
Herbert Hoover, who played an instrumental role in its construction,
first as Secretary of Commerce and then later as President of the
United States. We will return to Las Vegas for the evening.
Wednesday, June 11 Today, we will travel to Lake Powell,
a man-made reservoir on the Colorado River, straddling the border
between Utah and Arizona. It was created by the flooding of Glen
Canyon. After leaving Lake Powell, we will travel through the spectacular
cliff-and-canyon landscape of Zion National Park. We will spend
the night at the Grand Canyon.
Thursday, June 12 We will tour the Grand Canyon National
Park, South Rim and Hermits Rest. The Grand Canyon is a very colorful,
steep-sided gorge, carved by the Colorado River, in the U.S. state
of Arizona. It is largely contained within the Grand Canyon National
Park - one of the first national parks in the United States. Lunch
will be at Bright Angel Lodge. This afternoon, we will see an IMAX
film. We will depart the Grand Canyon and travel to Flagstaff, AZ
for the night.
Friday, June 13 Travel to Oak Creek Canyon and stop for
pictures. Oak Creek Canyon is a steep, narrow and very colorful
gorge that is at the center of the second most visited area in Arizona,
after the Grand Canyon. Next, we will visit the town of Sedona for
lunch and shopping. The town of Sedona is situated at the southern
end of the canyon where the cliffs open out, and provides a base
for exploring the surrounding lands, which include many other canyons
and an extensive, scenic red-rock wilderness in all directions.
This afternoon, we will tour the Montezuma Castle. This 20 room
high-rise apartment, nestled into a cliff high above Beaver Creek,
tells a 1,000 year old story of ingenuity and survival in an unforgiving
desert landscape. Built by prehistoric Sinagua people, Montezuma
Castle remains a sacred site for contemporary Pueblo cultures. We
will spend the next two nights in Phoenix, Arizona.
Saturday, June 14 This morning, we will take a guided tour
of Phoenix, state capitol, Scottsdale and Camelback Mountain. Camelback
Mountain is a mountain of 2,704 foot elevation in Phoenix, Arizona.
The name is derived from its shape, which resembles the two humps
and head of a Bactrian camel. This evening, a dinner will be included
at the My Big Fat Greek Restaurant. No one will leave hungry, and
surprisingly, most won't leave unsatisfied. As the name suggests,
the place is named after the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding."
Sunday, June 15 We will arrive at the airport for the flight
home filled with unforgettable memories
Registration form, a deposit of $350.00 check
(made payable to Toby Tours) and a copy of a photo I.D. is due by
February 5, 2008, if you are interested in traveling to Las Vegas.
Full payment is due April 2, 2008.

Remembrance Service
The holiday season is often a difficult time for those who grieve
the death of a loved one. At Owen Funeral Home we hope to join with
our families in these difficult days by remembering and honoring
the lives of those we have served over the past year in the Owen
Remembrance Service.
In this service, the Owen family and staff join with families served
in honoring the life of their loved one by presenting an ornament
with their loved one's name. It is our sincere hope that this ornament
will bring warmth and comforting memories of their loved one throughout
the season.

Remembrance
Quilt
The Owen Remembrance Quilt is a hanging testimony that honors the
lives of many served by Owen Funeral Home. The quilt is displayed
as a reminder that as long as we live, our loved ones also live
as we remember them. Each quilt square is unique and represents
what is special to each family about their loved one. Much time
and thought go into these quilt pieces. We are truly honored, at
Owen Funeral Home, to have the privilege to display this work of
love.
The first Remembrance Quilt was dedicated May 31, 1998. Since then,
new quilts are pieced together as squares are turned in by interested
families. Quilt pieces are available to any family member who has
had a loved one served by Owen Funeral Home. Once contacted, we
will see that you receive a quilt piece along with information about
when the next quilt is scheduled to be pieced together. Upon completion
of each new quilt, a dedication service is held. Family members
and friends are invited to join in this dedication service along
with a reception that follows. Through-out the year we will rotate
the completed quilts in and out of the display case, so that all
quilts are viewed in the years to come.
If you are interested in receiving a quilt square, contact Genene
Nisbet at 447-7759. She would be pleased to talk with you. You can
also e-mail us at Owen Funeral
Home.
