Betty Jane Vibert

Betty Vibert (MamMaw Betty), 91, passed away on August 22, 2021 after a long battle with Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). She was an active member of Incarnation Catholic Church. She was born July 12, 1930 to the late Joseph and Pauline Horrell. Betty grew up in the west end of Louisville, attended St. Charles Borromeo church and was a 1948 graduate of Mercy Academy. She worked at various clerical positions over the years, including the IRS and Clairmont Transfer. She was a member of TOPS #536. She was a founding member of On With Life – a grief counseling group operating within the Archdiocese of Louisville She was volunteered in the early days of Shively Area Ministries. Her involvement went on for 20 plus years - from working in a small food pantry to getting sponsorships and organizing fundraisers for the growing needs of the area. She used her IRS skills by volunteering with AARP for 25 years by providing taxpayer assistance to those with low incomes. She was later involved with St Lawrence’s Catholic Church Council of St Vincent de Paul. This ministry required many hours on the phone – a natural habitat of hers! Betty is preceded in death by her brother, William Joseph Horrell; cherished aunt, Mary “Aunt May” Horrell. Former husbands Anthony Richards and Clarence Ackerman. She is survived by her Husband, James “Jim” Vibert. Daughters, Karen (Bobby) VanVactor, Donna (Frank) Kerr, And Laura (Mark) Merkel. Step children, Doug (Sue) Vibert, Rick (Bev) Vibert, Ronnie (Linda) Vibert, John Vibert and Debbie (Chuck) Collings Grand children Larisa (Rick) Russell, Scott (Jennifer) Benningfield, Chris (Elaine) Bagby, Craig ( Kelli) Bagby, Jodie (Jason Harris) Merkel and Jason Merkel and Karen Renee Van Vactor and numerous step grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A mass will be held at Incarnation Church on Thursday 8/26 at 10:00 am with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will Be held Wednesday, 8/25 from 2:00pm-8:00pm at Owen Funeral Home – Dixie Highway, 5317 Dixie Highway.
