Franklin Delano Jones died peacefully on July 28, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born January 30, 1934 in Trimble County, Kentucky to Jennie C. Crafton and Herman Jones. His family moved to Riker’s Ridge near Madison, Indiana when he was a young boy. While living on Riker’s Ridge, Frank helped work the small family farm. The family moved to Madison when he was in Junior High. There he met the young woman, who would become the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Julia (Judy) Ditzler, who preceded him in death on February 12, 2020.Frank served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force including tours in Korea and Vietnam. Frank also spent time in Taiwan and Japan. During Frank’s time in the service, he and his young family enjoyed trips to the Grand Canyon, the Painted Desert, the Redwoods, Mount Rainier, Carlsbad Caverns, Yosemite and other National Parks. Frank also made time to take his family to Disneyland several times while living on the west coast. Following his time in the Air Force, Frank served briefly in law enforcement followed by a 15-year career at Naval Ordnance Station in Louisville, until his retirement in 1994. In retirement Frank and Judy enjoyed traveling the United States. Frank was an avid hunter and fisherman. Frank and his brother, Fielden went on many hunting and fishing outings together. Frank enjoyed gardening and tracing family histories. He attended Ashby Lane Baptist Church with Judy for many years. In September of 2019, his son, Frank Jones II accompanied him on an Honor Flight trip to Washington DC along with other Veterans of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Frank was a 50+year member of the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Masons. Survivors include his children, Franklin D. Jones II (Angela), Micheal F. Jones and Paula G. Hamrick (Ron); a sister, Louisa Frazier (Harold); nine grandchildren, Jon and Jason Hamrick, Jason, Danielle, Patrick, Maria, Jesse Jones, Jean Shoemaker, James Carnell and twenty great grandchildren, Jacob, Taylor, Connor, Leah, Robbie, Savannah, Kolby, Gavin, Colton, Jason, Jr.,Thomas, Dixie, Huey, Cliff, Lana, Rosalee, Mia, Jesse, Waylon, Riley; and many nieces and nephews.. Funeral services will be held 5:00p.m. Sunday August 1,2021 at the Owen Funeral Home 5317 Dixie Hwy. with visitation from 2:00-5:00pm Sunday. Burial will be in the Moffett Cemetery in Milton, KY. Memorial gifts may be made to Honor Flight Bluegrass Chapter or Hosparus of Louisville.
