Betty Ellen "Betty Jo" McCoy, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. Born in Hardin County, Kentucky, to the late Bessie (Sadler) and Shelby Goodman, Betty Jo made her home in Pleasure Ridge Park, where she lived for more than 50 years. She worked at White Castle and Mother's Cookies before dedicating her life to the people she loved most, her family. Betty Jo was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 50 years, Robert Owen "Bob" McCoy, and seven siblings. Betty Jo found her greatest joy in spending time with her family. Some of her happiest memories were made fishing and camping together at Rough River, where weekends were filled with laughter, stories around the campfire, and time with the people she loved most. She was also Bob's biggest supporter, proudly standing beside him throughout his years of building and racing Figure 8 cars. She was known for her incredible cooking and the love she poured into every meal. Her homemade biscuits and gravy, fried potatoes, and famous salmon patties became family favorites that everyone looked forward to. She loved hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas, opening her home to family and friends, making sure no one left hungry and everyone felt welcome. Betty Jo enjoyed working in her yard, listening to country music, and singing along to Gene Watson, George Jones, Conway Twitty, and Dolly Parton. She adored her cat, Blacktop. More than anything, Betty Jo loved her family. She was the voice of reason, the steady heart that held everyone together, and the person everyone turned to for comfort and advice. She was funny, sweet, caring, honest, and fiercely independent. She had a quiet strength that carried her family through life's ups and downs and a remarkable gift for bringing out the best in everyone she met. Her love was shown through the countless meals she cooked, the holidays she hosted, the hugs she gave, and the sacrifices she made for those she loved. She is survived by her children, Eddie Duvall (Dolly), Pam Curl (Rodney), Diane Duvall (Mike), and Karen McIntosh (Ervin); her sister, Darlene Smothers; grandchildren, Jenny (Kevin), Michael (Carrie), Shawn (Jena), Lee, Destiny, Megan (Josh), and Kayla; six great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2026, followed by a 4:00 p.m. memorial service at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway.
