Brian Richard Mullins

Brian Richard Mullins, 39, of Louisville, passed away on September 12, 2025. Brian was born November 10, 1985. He is survived by his mother, Stephanie Mullins, his father, John “Rick” (Jamie) Mullins, his siblings Angie (Eric) Bannon, Mandy Mullins, Kameron Mullins, and nieces Kate and Ella Bannon. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Mary Thornberry, and Monroe and Josephine Mullins, and his nephew, Matthew Bannon. Brian was an all star athlete in his youth, mastering basketball, hockey and baseball, the latter two which he played for over a decade. He was on the baseball team at Holy Cross High School where he graduated from in 2004. He loved golf and played as often as he was able. He was also an avid sports fan having a lifelong love for the Louisville Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs. Brian had a strong relationship with sports his whole life. From his toddler years on, he proudly rocked a team shirt and always a hat, priding himself on his ball cap collection. At 3 years old, he innocently asked his mom if she would buy him a knife so he could carve his own baseball bat after he watched a documentary about how bats were made. His granny introduced him to the Chicago Cubs which led to a lifelong obsession. The 90s greats - Sammy Sosa, Mark Grace, Ryne Sandberg - were his heroes whom he still admired and talked about in recent days. Brian was nostalgic and loved to reminisce about his favorite tv shows, movies, sports legends, games and music from childhood. He loved oldies and his playlist was often filled with 50s music like “Last Kiss” and “Johnny B. Goode”. This love likely began at just two years old when he fell in love with the song, “Oh Donna”, from one of his favorite movies, La Bamba. Brian had a heart for animals of all kinds, and even though he was allergic, was quite the cat guy. He had a soft spot for his kitty, Minnie, who kept him company on the porch while he smoked. Despite the allergy risk, he would even let her in his room sometimes because she liked watching the birds from his window. He also loved his dog, Cubbie, whom he named after his cherished team. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether golfing or doing yardwork. He kept his families’ yards in pristine condition, finding satisfaction in the sweat equity and the beauty of the finished, crisp edges and clean lines. One of the things that brought Brian the most joy was the weather. Watching forecasts on tv and observing the changes in a cloudy sky brought Brian alive. He would send the family alerts to take shelter when tornadoes were on the way, sometimes going out to chase a potential funnel cloud. No weather pattern could compare to his love of snow. As a child, he liked sledding, building snowmen and hurling snowballs at his sisters in his icy wonderland. As an adult, he found calm and a sense of purpose by shoveling driveways for his mom and beloved aunts. He couldn’t contain his enthusiasm for an impending snowstorm, often texting a screenshot of a snow-covered weather radar with a simple, “yeah buddy!” Brian was a brave man, whose shy, silly exterior masked the abundance of internal emotions he only shared with trusted confidants. As the epic Babe Ruth said in one of Brian’s favorite childhood movies, The Sandlot, “heroes get remembered, but legends never die.” Your legacy of strength and perseverance will stay with us forever, Brian. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 17 at 11 am at Incarnation Catholic Church, 2229 Lower Hunters Trace.
