Mrs Byrdella Yates

Mrs. Byrdella Yates was born June 4, 1926 in Poole, KY to Harry and Nannie Lambert. She was the youngest of 4 children. She was married to the late George Yates, Sr for over 64 years. As a young adult she moved to Louisville, KY after marrying George Yates in 1946. They were blessed with 10 children, 5 boys and 5 girls. Infant twins a girl and boy and oldest son are deceased. She was a home maker, with a passion for cooking and baking desserts. She also worked as a cafeteria cook for the Jefferson Co. Public school system. Mrs. Yates joined Mt Olive Missionary Baptist church in about 1948. She was an active and faithful member until 2006. She was a primary Sunday school teacher; after she retired from teaching, she was an active member of the Sunday school. She was a Royal United Nurse, former president of the Nurses Guild and started the youth Nurses Guild. She was an usher and BTU teacher. Mrs. Yates was in the Women’s Missionary Circle and cooked the meals for the youth missionaries on Tuesday nights. Mrs. Yates is a member of Deacon and Widows Wives Council at Mt Olive. She also chaired the 1st Family Pew Day at Mount Olive when the church moved to their present location on Kentucky Street. Mrs. Yates loved all the youth of Mount Olive and enjoyed those that visit after becoming adults. Mrs. Yates had 2 brothers Jesse Lambert, Chester Lambert, and 1 sister Jenny Wallace that preceded her in death. Mrs. Yates is survived by her children George Yates Jr.( Rosie), Glenda Ricketts ( Earl), LaMont Yates (Renee), Paulette Jewell (LeRoy- deceased), Andre Yates (Pepper – deceased), Sherry Hatchett (Lee) , Rosalind Yates, and step daughter Helen Little. 18 grandchildren: Diana, Earl Jr., Glenn, Yolanda, LeRon, Demetrius, Tracey, Derick, BeChnYah (Ashley), Tiffany, Melissa, Marcie, Amber, Dedric, LaTonya, Leesha, Tiera and Crystal, 36 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews, 3 special friends Veronica Wright, William Long, and James Martin all of who loved her dearly. Her favorite scripture, Psalms 121 1. I will lift up my eyes to the hills from whence comes my help? 2. My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
