Carl Owen Cottrell

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of a remarkable individual, Carl Owen Cottrell AKA “Red”, age 74, of Louisville, Kentucky who departed this world on Saturday, August, 12th, 2023. Carl touched the lives of countless individuals, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Born on June 26,1949 in Louisville, Ky, Carl was raised in a large family, he was instilled with values that would shape the course of his life. He attended Manual High School and soon after was enlisted into the United States Army. He was a retired Plant Operator for Jefferson County Public Schools, and Proud Army Veteran. He was a role model of how to help others, a devoted friend, a solution person, a listening ear and sounding board. He loved listening to music, and would cut a rug if given the opportunity. He loved the flea market, a good yard sale and finding a “good deal” even if he didn’t need it! He enjoyed playing poker, throwing horseshoes, bowling, shooting pool. He was a great cook, and loved spending time with friends and family. The kids (a loving father) and grandkids was his world. Those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with Carl will forever remember his compassionate heart, spirit, zest for life, and the profound impact he made on the lives of others. His selflessness inspired us all to be better and to give back to the world around us. He is preceded in death by his parents, Russell Cottrell, Rudell Butler , and two siblings, Owen Cottrell and Charlotte Cottrell. Left to cherish his memory is…. Daughter, Rebecca Fileppi - Son, Curt Cottrell. granddaughter, Julianna Fileppi, grandson, Jrue Cottrell. brothers, Coy Riggs (Margaret), Harold Cottrell (Judy), Glenn Cottrell (Kaye), and sister, Rita, Saltsman. And his two beloved dogs. As we say good bye to this exceptional soul, let us carry on his legacy of generosity and love. Rest in peace, dear Carl. Your kindness has left an enduring imprint on the world, and you will be deeply missed by all whose lives you touched. Funeral services will be Friday at 10 AM Owen funeral home, 5317 Dixie Highway with burial to follow Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central. Visitation will be Thursday from 10 AM to 8 PM and Friday from 9 AM to 10 AM. The family would like to sincerely thank his wonderful caregivers, as well as Hosparus.
