Gerald Emmett Meek

Gerald Emmett Meek, 83, born February 10, 1942, and passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family whilst under the care of the wonderful and caring people of the Carl M. Brashear Radcliff Veterans’ Center. He was predeceased by his wife/kitchen maven of 53 years, Doris (Schneble) Meek, his brother, Sonny (Jo Ellen) Meek, and parents Chester & Allegra Meek. Jerry, as everyone called him, was quite the boisterous personality and imbued much of that zest and love of life into his 3 wonderful daughters, Rebecca, Rhonda, and Marjorie all of whom married and gave him grandchildren, which he promptly returned after basking in their company during their many visits to see their beloved Papaw. Every in-law was met with open arms and usually Doe Baby’s cooking, too! And I can tell you from experience that she did her part to make us all much fatter (those beef & noodles!)! Jerry was passionate about many things, family above all else, but let’s not forget his love for his The Cats, The Steelers, and his hot rods (Mello-Yellow & Green Machine). People hating on his sports teams didn’t deter his zeal in the slightest, either. He took it all in stride – equal parts disher and taker. He liked to watch old war movies, too, till he fell asleep in the recliner 50 minutes in. Jerry could be rather excitable, too – just ask the neighbors! He also had his little Jerry Jig that was often imitated but never duplicated! He mellowed and really learned to take most things in stride later in life, and those who were fortunate enough to bask in his presence will dearly miss him. It is hard to believe that the walls will no longer rattle as he does his little dance for whatever reason he saw fit. He retired from Ford Motor Company in 2002 after 30 years of dedicated service. He was a Mason brother at Valley-Daylight Lodge #511 F&AM. Jerry is survived by (this is quite the list): Daughters Rebecca (Mark), Rhonda (Terry), and Marjorie (Chad), 6 grandchildren, Jesse, Chad, Alicia (Collin), Tinsley II, Trevor, Chloe, 5½ great grandchildren (August), a sister Charlotte Hannigan, and 5 nephews. Jerry’s celebration of life will be held at Owens Funeral Home 5317 Dixie Highway Louisville Ky 40216, visitation Friday March 21, 2025, from 4:00-8:00 and Saturday March 22, 2025, 9:00-11:00 service to follow.
