John Durbin Sr.

JOHN DURBIN, SR. (85) FEBRUARY 16, 1937-2022 John Durbin, a native of Louisville, Ky., departed this earth to his heavenly home on Saturday, December 10, 2022. He was the son of Ernest and Lillian Durbin. He is survived by 2 sisters, Dora Zweydorff, Sue Pfeiffer, a brother, Ronald (Ronnie) Durbin and brothers-in-law, Gordon Pfister and Jesse Johnston. His children, Vicki Tungate, John Durbin, Jr. (Brenda) and Joey Durbin (Marcy Radar) will remember their father's sacrifices and hard work as a meat cutter at A&P grocery for 30 years and a meat manager at Pic Pac for 10 years to provide a loving home with their mother Mary. He shared his faith and love of Jesus by raising his children and granddaughter at the Broadway Church of the Nazarene and teaching them to love Jesus also. Upon moving to Jamestown, Ky., John then joined the Jamestown Church of the Nazarene where he attended and served regularly. In his leisure time, you were most likely to find John wearing a UofL shirt cheering for his favorite team. He loved fishing and making his handcrafted split bamboo fly rods. John received both national and local recognition for his rod building skills. His favorite place away from home was Kentucky Lake. There he honeymooned and later brought his children to enjoy vacationing. His world lit up when his grandchildren, Stephanie Dawson (Kevin), Jessica Tungate (Bobby Ferguson), Joshua Tungate and his great grandchildren, Kaleb Dawson, Madelynn (Maddie) Smith and Lydia Ferguson came to visit him in Jamestown, Ky. where he retired. He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mary Durbin, a granddaughter, Meghan Tungate, brother, Charles Durbin, sisters, Dorthy Pfister, Martha Johnston, & Gertrude Durbin. His memory will be cherished by those who loved him, including his many nephews, nieces and friends. The family wishes to thank Lake Cumberland Hospice for their care. Funeral service is Wednesday, December 21st, 2022, at 10:00 am at Owen’s Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway, Louisville, Ky., 40216 with burial to follow at Highland Memory Garden, 279 Landis Lane., Mt Washington, KY 40047.
