Martha Lou (Bailey) Sims

On May 22, 2023, Martha Lou (Bailey) Sims passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 83. She received her heavenly wings after battling lung disease. Born June 27th, 1939, Martha was raised in Glasgow Kentucky on her family’s farm alongside her younger brother, by two loving parents. She was raised in the Church of God and attended Temple Hill High School, where she would begin wonderful friendships with fellow school mates and be named “Miss Sophomore” in her high school yearbook. Just like most love stories, there was a handsome young man who stole her heart. That love story would be the beginning of a beautiful family and lifelong partnership filled with love and wonderful memories. Mitch, 6 years older and home from the War, would find his true love sipping milkshakes at the Dairy Queen and offered her a ride in his convertible. Mitch and Martha married in June of 1956 and began a new life, moving to Louisville, Kentucky where they would settle and make their forever home. She was a wonderful homemaker and tremendous mother who always put her children first. Her loyalty and love of her family was the very thread that wove them all together. Martha suffered many losses in her life including the death of her son Todd. While grieving the loss of her son, she became stronger in her faith and more dedicated to her family. She cultivated a loving and close relationship with her two daughters and the many grandchildren which she adored. Martha was a devoted Christian, wife and mother to three children and friend to most everyone she met. She was a member of Shively Baptist Church and cherished the relationships she built with her church family and her Lord and Savior. Martha was preceded in Death by her husband (Mitchell A. Sims), her son (Gary Todd Sims), and her parents (Oma and Edwin Bailey). She is survived by her daughters Teresa L. Moad and husband Dennis, Tracie M. Nations and husband Brad, and her brother James E. Bailey and wife Maxine. Martha had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. She adored spending time with each of them and they have precious stories about their “Mamaw” and how she spoiled them. Listed oldest to youngest and to include her blended family: Jason Sims, Christina Hutchinson, Ashley Whitehead, Justin Sims, Jennifer Hume, Lucas Hill, Bailey Hill, Emily Dietzman, Kayla Nations. Martha is also survived by 15 beautiful great grandchildren which she treasured. Martha’s beautiful spirit and kind soul has touched everyone she loved. Please join us in celebrating her life. Visitation will be at Owens Funeral Home on Tuesday May 30th from 2‐8 p with Funeral Service to begin at 11am on May 31st and graveside service to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens.
