Mary LaVerne Holman

Mary LaVerne Smith Holman passed away, peacefully, at age 95, on July 24, 2021. LaVerne was born on October 8, 1925, in Louisville, KY, to Leo and Emma Marie Smith. She was Catholic by faith and a member of Incarnation Church. LaVerne was married to William Robert Holman for 43 years. LaVerne resided in Pleasure Ridge Park surrounded by family, friends and loving neighbors. LaVerne and Bob were both snowbirds and enjoyed their time living in Florida as well as square dancing, crocheting, traveling, classic TV shows and enjoying the company of friends, neighbors and most importantly, family. LaVerne was an avid football fan and during basketball season you would find her cheering for the University of Kentucky. She had the best neighbors, Wanda, Anis and Tony. A special thanks to Meals on Wheels, David, Earl, Bill and Moses, who took great care of her and provided delicious meals that she looked forward to. Special thanks to Father Chris and to Jeannie Levy who visited with her weekly to pray with her and administer Holy Communion. LaVerne leaves behind an amazing and cherished legacy as well as five generations of children, Grand Children, Great Grandchildren and Great, Great Grandchildren. Her beautiful life will always be cherished by her loving and devoted children, Mary Donna Vincent and Gary Wayne Haley; loving Sister, Joyce Willis; loving Grandchildren, Melissa (Travis), Gary (Alicia), Kenny (Vonnie), Kim, Susan, Eric (Tammy), Ernie (Cheri), Phil (Brooke), Brent (Kimberly), Michael (Natalie), Vanessa, Jessica and Emily (Shawn); 27 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great-Great Grandchildren; loving Sister-in-Law, Patricia Smith; loving Step-Daughter, Debbie Self (Danny); loving Daughter-in-Law, Sandy Haley; and lots of loving family members and friends. Mary LaVerne Smith Holman is predeceased in death by her loving parents, Leo and Emma Smith; her beloved Son, Michael Haley; Husband, William Robert Holman; first Husband, Ernie Haley; Brother, Richard Smith; Sister, Margie Ridge; Brothers-in-Law, John Ridge and Bob Willis; Nephew, Johnny Ridge and Son in Law, Vince Vincent. Mary's Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Incarnation Catholic Church 2229 Lower Hunters Trace, Louisville, KY 40216. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 8:00 PM on Wednesday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy. Louisville, KY 40216.
