Born on October 28th, 1946, to the late Reuben Williams Sr. and Mary Catherine McGowan Williams, Billy was a man of quiet strength and enduring devotion. He cherished the nickname "Billy," lovingly given to him by his grandmother during his childhood. For 13 years, he made his livelihood driving a tractor-trailer for Leitchfield Transfer, demonstrating unwavering dedication and resilience throughout his career. Billy, a Vietnam veteran whose selfless service aboard the USS Oriskany stands as a shining beacon of dedication to his country. Through three tours as a Naval Aviation Fuel Handler and third-class petty officer, Billy not only endured the rigorous demands of military life but excelled in one of the most dangerous jobs aboard a Navy aircraft carrier—the flight deck. His commitment to his country stands as a powerful testament to the bravery and honor with which he lived his life Billy found joy in the little things that brought meaning and connection to his days. An avid University of Kentucky fan, he reveled in the camaraderie of sports, delighted in collecting Hallmark ornaments, and found peace in working on puzzles and reading. As technology evolved, Billy embraced his iPad with enthusiasm, coloring and playing Smurfs with a childlike joy that mirrored his vibrant spirit. These moments of quiet contentment captured the essence of a soul who sought connection and meaning in every day. Yet, above all, it was his family that defined him. Billy shared an extraordinary bond with his beloved wife, Patty S. Williams, his soulmate and partner in life. Together, they raised three remarkable daughters, who were the central joy and purpose of his world. His love for them was unconditional, and his legacy endures in the lives they lead. Billy leaves behind a family that adored him, his daughters; Sarah Robin, Shelia Kay and Sheena Denise Williams including his sisters Carol (Ronnie) Roberts and Betty Hull, as well as a host of extended relatives and friends who loved and cherished him. His presence was a source of comfort and joy, a gentle reminder of the love he so generously shared. His passing reunites him with his beloved wife, Patty; his parents, Reuben Sr. and Mary Catherine; his brothers, James and Thomas (Mary Sue); his brother-in-law, Harry Hull; and his nephew, Kenneth Hull, who preceded him in death. Billy’s presence lingers like a gentle breeze in the wind—unseen but deeply felt—his spirit is woven into the fabric of cherished memories, bringing solace and strength to those who had the privilege of knowing him. Funeral services to honor Billy’s life will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, June 29th, 2025, at Owen Funeral Home, located at 5317 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY 40216. Friends and family may gather at the same location from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Cremation services will follow the next day.
