Waneta Alice (Botcher) Oliver

Oliver, Waneta Alice (Botcher) 84, of Louisville, went home to her heavenly father August 20, 2022 surrounded by her family who loved her very much. Born in Anthon, Iowa March 7th, 1938 to Walter and Bertha Botcher, she was proudly raised on a farm and always kept that sense of pride throughout her life. Her strong work ethic, loving nature and genuine kindness to all who crossed her path was evident as soon as you met her. Her husband (Fred Oliver) met her while he was in the Air Force and stationed in Sioux City, Iowa. Waneta caught his eye while working at the town movie theater selling tickets out front. The couple married in 1957 and stayed married until Fred’s untimely passing in February 2005. Fred and Waneta had 5 children, one (Jerry William Oliver) who died as an infant in 1960. The surviving children - Terry Oliver (Linda), Robert Oliver (Cindy), Sherri Porter (Pat) and Wally Oliver (Tonya) were dearly loved by her and she provided them love and support throughout their lives. Waneta had nine grandchildren, Justin Oliver (Mara), Carly Peerce (Jimmy), Robert Oliver, Jr. (Taylor), Joey Oliver, Lucas Porter, Colten Porter, Katie Spragg (Brennen), and Hunter Oliver (Michaela) step-grandsons, Daniel and Rick Kerberg; and eight great-grandchildren who she cherished and always made feel special whenever she was around them. In her later years, her fiercely independent soul showed through when Waneta annually made solo trips to Iowa in her little red sports car to see her beloved sister Sally Briese (Bob) and many of her high school friends. She also had an innate love to help others and found her passion in volunteering at a local hospital where she brought her charm and contagious laughter to the patients and visitors as she helped them navigate through the facility. She was recognized multiple times for her dedication and numerous hours she accrued during her time volunteering. Waneta also loved watching sports, especially football and basketball and rooted for her native Iowa Hawkeyes as well as the Kentucky Wildcats. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred of 48 years, her sisters Loretta Botcher and Margaret Carlsen, her brother Laverne Botcher (Alice), her son Jerry William Oliver, her previous daughter-in-law Susan Oliver and her grandson Dylan T. Yaden. Visitation will be Thursday the 25th of August from 2-8pm at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy with funeral services at 11am on Friday the 26th. Burial will be at Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
