Donald Lee Young Sr., 85, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2025. Donald was born to the late Virginia Young and William F. Young in Jeffersontown, Kentucky, on May 20, 1939. He was married to his loving wife, Betty (Donnelly) Young, for 68 years and together had 6 boys (Pat, Don, Bill, Keith, John, and Dwayne). Donald was a respected Jeffersontown resident for most of his life. He worked with Deans Milk Company for 10 years and from there he used his hard work ethic at an early age to manage several grocery stores. He was an assistant manager at J-Town Gateway from 1960 – 1961). He then started running his own Masonry business and some real estate investments. He coached baseball to help his boys excel in sports and he spent several years in the Jeffersontown Jaycees and served as President helping with the Miss Jeffersontown Pageant with three back-to-back winners going on to become Miss Kentucky. Donald loved to work on classic cars with his friends Bud, Dolla, and Charles and he also enjoyed fishing and boating and firmly believed the fish didn’t start biting until Merle Haggard started playing. Donald was an amazing supportive father to his 6 boys and raised them to be self-sufficient from an early age to make their own way in life. He moved his family into a home where he and he was able to create a family farm that included horses, cows, chickens, and pigs. He dug a pond where he and his family and friends can enjoy and from there, he built an in-ground swimming pool hosting many family and friends to enjoy while making lifelong memories for all who gathered. As he begins his next journey with our Heavenly Father, let’s celebrate the life of this great Husband, Father, Grandfather, Friend, and Neighbor, Mr. Young. He is preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and William Young. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty (Donnelly) Young; Children, Pat Young (Denise), Donald Young, Jr. (Stephanie), Bill Young (Ann Marie), Keith Young (Sherry), John Young (Barbara), and Dwayne Young (Brenda); and numerous grandchildren. His funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Owen Funeral home – Jeffersontown, 9318 Taylorsville Road, with burial to follow at Cedar Grover in Shepherdsville, KY. His visitation will be Wednesday, September 24, 2025 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and will be held at Owen Funeral Home – Jeffersontown from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
