Emma Patricia "Pat" Manahan

MANAHAN, Emma Patricia “Pat”, 79, of Louisville, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, July 30, 2026. Pat was born in Louisville, Kentucky on March 20, 1947 to the late Walter and Alice (Marcum) Sipes. She attended college at Kentucky Southern College and ultimately obtained her bachelor’s degree in political science and French from the University of Louisville. She spent 34 years as an exceptional and hard-working legal assistant, 29 of those years with Frost Brown Todd in Louisville. Although she only stood five-foot tall, Pat cast a large shadow everywhere she went. No matter what obstacles were thrown her way, she was the most confident, courageous, positive, and optimistic woman in the world. Fiercely protective of her two sons, Pat devoted much of her adult life to raising them as a single mother while working a demanding, full-time job. She never missed a chance to tell her sons how much she loved them and made countless personal sacrifices to ensure that they could enjoy happy and successful lives. If one of her children needed anything, she would immediately drop whatever she was doing and be there for them. To utilize her favorite word, she was unquestionably an “awesome” mom. To no one’s surprise, Pat, or “Gran” as she affectionately became known to everyone, was a first-ballot, hall-of-fame grandmother. She was a “fun” grandparent. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time over the last 12 years with her twin grandsons. She made them laugh with her sense of humor and quick and witty one-liners, and they, in turn, provided endless entertainment for her. And, just like she did with her sons, Gran was a fixture at virtually all of her grandchildren’s school and sporting events. Pat’s life was forever changed when she reconnected with an old high school classmate, Ted, at their 50th high school class reunion. From that day forward, Pat and Ted were inseparable, and they were married on November 26, 2016. To anyone in their presence, it was clear how much they genuinely enjoyed and cherished one another. Pat and Ted loved to travel, especially to London and Paris. Pat was an avid golfer and loved playing with Ted as members of the Fleur-De-Lis Club courses. She was a beloved member of the PFLGA Board of Directors and treasured her time playing golf with her lady friends at the Polo Fields Golf Club and in Florida with the Rotonda Women’s Golf Association. Besides her parents, Pat is preceded in death by her brother, Gene Sipes. She is survived by her husband, Theodore (“Ted”) Manahan; sons, Brad Spencer (Sarah) and Grant Spencer; grandchildren, Bryce (“Brycee”) and Beckett (“Beck Beck”) Spencer; and nephews, Kyle Higgason (Carol), Mackenzie Sipes (Brittany), and Cody Sipes (Haley). Visitation will be 11am-1pm Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway. Her service will be at 1pm Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens, West.
