James W. "Jim" McCubbins Jr

James W. McCubbins, Jr. was born on February 5, 1942 in Louisville KY to his loving parents James W & Bertha Clark McCubbins. He was their firstborn of six children. He graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1961 & began his 34 year career with Dispenser’s Optical that summer. He & his wife Mary Doris “Buddie” Stinson vs were married on April 19, 1969 & were blessed with the love of their lives, Christy McDonald about 4 years later. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve at Bowman Field in 1963 & was honorably discharged in 1969. He began his sports ministry with the St Lawrence Mens’ Club in 1969 & spent over 40 years coaching softball & working many varied fundraisers for the CSAA & Intramural sports for the ministry as well as his Church. He loved working the concession stand & being around the kiddos. He was also active the Parish Office as a volunteer; the Parish Hall Manager for several years & Vacation Bible School. He was a prankster at heart & loved hosting parties & family reunions at his home. Later in life he followed his Dad’s footsteps becoming the Neighborhood Watchdog. He spent countless hours on the front porch after he retired greeting passers by & neighbors & enjoyed evening gatherings on his porch. He loved listening to his beloved Bats baseball games on the radio during the summer. His hobbies included bowling, baseball (Kentucky Colonels, Redbirds & the Bats) & his beloved Kentucky Wildcats!!! He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Floyd. He is survived by his wife Mary Doris “Buddie” Stinson McCubbins & his daughter Christy McDonald (Allen). His brothers Ed (Mary); John (Karen), Donald & his sister Ann McCubbins. His nephews & niece: Eddie (LaDona), Steven (Elaine), Richard (Jessica), David (Lauren), Brandon McCubbins & Molly Malone (Mondo) as well as several great nieces & nephews. Visitation will be Sunday; February 8 from 12:00/6:00 at Owen Funeral Home; 5317 Dixie Highway. The Celebration of Life will be held on Monday; February 9 at 11:00 am at St . Lawrence Catholic Church; 1925 Lewiston Drive; with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Expressions of sympathy can be made to The Crusade for Children; Catholic Charities, Hosparus or St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
