Melvin Wayne "Mel" Milburn

Melvin Wayne "Mel" Milburn passed away December 1, 2022, in Melbourne, Florida with his loving wife and daughter by his side. Mel was born June 6, 1951, to Esther Mae Milburn and Harold Eugene Milburn in Louisville, Kentucky. After graduating from Taylor County High School in 1969, he had a diverse career which included service in the United States Army (stationed at Fort Knox), eventually going on to study Engineering at the University of Louisville's J.B. Speed School. He worked as an Engineer and Land Surveyor on countless projects across the state of Kentucky, most notably the Louisville Waterfront Park and Big Four Bridge. He served as a Commissioner on the Oldham County Water District Board of Commissioners for 18 years, including nine as Chairman. He was involved in the La Grange Rotary Club for many years, and served as President in 2006. In 1986, he met Robin Kay Engleman, going on to wed several years later and have one child, Madison Raye Milburn in 1994. Mel was endlessly devoted to his wife and daughter, who meant more to him than anything else in the world. He was extremely proud of his daughter and their close relationship was admired by all. Mel was a talented musician and performed as the lead singer of various local groups over the years, including Goldbrick and the Sultans. He loved to travel the country with his family in their RV. He also enjoyed meeting up with his close friends and business associates for breakfast each day in La Grange, Ky. Anyone who knew Mel knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for, and the best friend. Mel was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Eugene Milburn; his mother, Esther Mae Milburn; and his father, Harold Eugene Milburn. He is survived by his loving wife, Robin Kay Milburn; daughter, Madison Raye Milburn; sister, Paula Milburn Collins (Ricky); and brother, Richard Milburn (Laurie). A celebration of Mel's life will take place Jan. 7, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home in Jeffersontown, with a special tribute at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a scholarship fund in Mel's name, which will fund education for adult learners pursuing a degree in Engineering at the University of Louisville's J.B.
